Indianapolis Colts team history

The Indianapolis Colts are members of the NFL's AFC South division. The Colts were originally located in Baltimore and experienced a good amount of success in the 60's and early 70s, winning a Super Bowl in 1971 with star quarterback Johnny Unitas, considered by many to be one of the best quarterbacks of all time. However, during the late 70's and early 80's the Colts performed badly and with shrinking attendance and deteriorating stadium, owner Robert Isray started looking around for a new home for the Colts. In 1983 he found that home, and moved the Colts to Indianapolis. The only problem was he decided to move the team in the middle of the night, leaving many Baltimore Colts fans with a bitter taste in their mouth. After the move the Colts. The Colts didn't really achieve success until the 1987, where they were led by running back Eric Dickerson, but they still failed to advance further then the first round until 1995-96. in 96' Jim Harbaugh had one of his best seasons as Colts Quarterback and in the AFC Championship game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Colts were down by just 4 points with a little over a minute remaining. Harbaugh led his Colts down the field in a last second drive. The drive ended in a hail mary pass to wide receiver, Aaron Bailey which bounced around in the endzone but was dropped with no time remaining, leaving the Colts out of the Super Bowl. After losing this game the Colts had to start rebuilding their franchise once again, and as the pieces came together with Peyton Manning, Edgerin James, and superstar wide receiver Marvin Harrison the Colts were poised to make some noise in the NFL Playoffs. Their best season to date with Peyton at the helm came last year, as the Colts glided past the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs into the AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots. The Colts hung tough in the game but were not able to put the clamps down on defense, losing the game 24-14 and once again just missing a Super Bowl appearance. The Colts are still young and will have a chance again to go to a Super Bowl in 2004-05, it should be a very interesting season for all Indianapolis Colts football fans.
