Green Bay Packers team history

You can't even begin talking about Green Bay Packers team history without talking about legendary NFL football coach, Vince Lombardi. Lombardi coined the phrase winning isn't everything, it's the only thing, and it showed in his coaching style and records he set as coach of Green Bay. Green Bay won five league championships over a seven year period in the 1960's and Green Bay won the first two Super Bowls under Lombardi too. And to this day, The Super Bowl trophy is named the Vince Lombardi trophy which shows how much of an impact Lombardi had on the Packers and NFL as a whole. Not only is the legacy of Vince Lombardi an interesting story, but so is the Green Bay Packer franchise in itself. The Packers are the only NFL team not owned by a few corporate moguls or a solitary figurehead owner, but owned by the city of Green Bay itself, which boasts only a population of 100,000 of the most loyal football fans. The team has also become sort of a state franchise and people come from the farthest reaches of Wisconsin to see the team battle it out it NFL Playoff and regular season games. Lambeau Field, which was built by the city in the late 50's is one of the oldest and best places to watch a football game, made famous by the frigid and cold snowy games that have sometimes been played and most won by the Packers. In recent history, Brett Favre has led the Packers to a Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots in 1996 and is a staple himself in come from behind victories, toughness and amazing long passes. It seems like the Green Bay Packers always have a chance to win the game, and Brett Favre makes it even more possible, when he retires he will be surely missed and become an even bigger part of Packer history.
