Carolina Panthers team history

The Carolina Panthers are one of 4 teams in the NFL's NFC South Division. The Panthers first started as an NFL expansion team in 1995 and right away experienced success. They won an amazing 7 games with an almost .500 record, something no other NFL expansion team has ever done. in 1996, the Panthers weren't finish, they finished up the NFL season with a West Division title, with 12 victories and were led by the former Penn State stand out, Kerry Collins and a strong ball control offense led by kicker John Kasay. In 2001, the Panthers started to fall from grace with only a 1-15 record, one of the worst in NFL History. However, after rebuilding the team in 2002, a rejuvenated Carolina Panthers team led by wide receiver Steve Smith and underrated and almost unknown quarterback Jake Delhomme. The Panthers completed a 11-5 NFL regular season and advanced into the playoffs confident. During the 2004 NFL Playoffs the Panthers user their receivers for long streaking passes, and their running game to eat up clock allowing their defense to rest and wearing down opposing teams. During the stretch the Panthers were able to win the NFC Championship against the heavily favored Philadelphia Eagles who many thought would get to their first Super Bowl in 25 years. Next up was the New England Patriots, The Panthers hung tough in Super XXXVIII against the Pats, and tied the game with only a few minutes remaining. Unfortunately for Carolina though the Patriots had enough time to get off a field goal by Adam Viniteri and Patriots won in 32-29. However, The Panthers over-achieved in the 2003 NFL season and NFL playoffs and the playoffs and game were a sign of good things to come out of this young but successful NFL Franchise.
